I am a senior lecturer in journalism at the University of the Arts, London and have been the elected AJE representative for the London College of Communication since 1997. I first became a committee member in 1999.
I was a practicing journalist from 1973, on both newspapers and periodicals, before taking up a lecturing post in 1990. My main area of research and responsibility in education has been production journalism, particularly the development of the newsroom in the educational environment.
Along with the rest of the AJE membership I have fought for standards and innovation in journalism education over the years. I have helped organise many AJE seminars and conferences, hosting four of these at LCP/LCC.
I first became secretary in 2004 and was rapporteur for the AJE at the first World Journalism Education Congress in 2007. I also attended the second world congress in South Africa in 2010 where I presented a paper on experiential learning and the role of the newsroom in the educational environment.
I took on the role of secretary once more at the last AJE/AGM last September and am proud to be part of the AJE’s continuing development.
